Heralded as an All-America at USC, he proved his
worth immediately as a 49er rookie in 1981. His statistics are
not as numerous only because they do not catalogue the ferocity
of his hundreds, maybe thousands of tackles. He was at the forefront
of the 49er resurgence in the '80's, noted as one of the most
intelligent, most courageous cornerbacks/safeties in the NFL.
He was seven times All-Pro and selected nine times to the Pro
Bowl. Enshrined in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
