Billy Martin

Born in Berkeley, where after graduating from Berkeley High, he signed with the Oakland Oaks in 1946. Sold to the New York Yankees in 1950 where in six seasons he played in five World Series, batting .333. Retired after 11 seasons playing with Kansas City, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Minnesota. Managed Minnesota, Detroit, Texas, Oakland and New York Yankees. Led his teams to five play-offs and two World Series, winning the Series in 1977. Enshrined in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
