Dick Bass

He became a Bay Area high school sports legend in the 1950s as a sensational running back at Vallejo High, scoring 37 touchdowns in nine games as a senior. He was no less sensational at the College of Pacific, recording a rare trifecta in 1959 when he led the nation in rushing, scoring and total offense. He joined the NFL Los Angeles Rams in 1960 and two years later became the franchise’s first 1000-yard rusher (in a 14-game season). He played ten years for the Rams, amassing nearly 9000 yards rushing, receiving and returning kicks. Inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
