Scholarship Presentation
Winners of the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame’s 12th Annual Art
Rosenbaum High School Sports Writing Scholarship received their awards in an on-field
ceremony before the San Francisco Giants – St. Louis Cardinals baseball game on Sunday,
August 1, at SBC Park in San Francisco.

First place winner Anne Erickson of Lick-Wilmerding High School,
San Francisco received $2500. Second place winners Matt Langseth
& Melissa Nylander of California High School, San Ramon, shared $1500.
Third place winners, Danai Leininger & Andy Slater of Lowell High School,
San Francisco, shared $1,000. Anne Erickson and Matt Langseth were
unable to attend the presentation thus Gia Paoli accepted on Anne’s behalf
and Melissa Nylander accepted on Matt’s behalf. The late Art Rosenbaum’s
granddaughters Cindy and Jenne Viola presented the awards to the scholarship
winners.

Honorable mention went to Dakota Anderson of Vacaville High School,
Vacaville; Morgan Cantrell of Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo;
Molly Crystal of Henry M. Gunn High School, Palo Alto; Diego Del Barco of
Capuchino High School, San Bruno; Jessie Ho of Aragon High School, San Mateo;
Colt Rosensweig of Menlo Atherton High School, Atherton; and Peter True of
Berkeley High School, Berkeley.
This annual scholarship began in 1992 when Rosenbaum completed 60 years as a
San Francisco Chronicle columnist-sports editor. He started his journalism
career as a high school writer. The $5000 is derived from the Art Rosenbaum
retirement party and is supplemented by the Saints and Sinners, a charity
which provided milk for school children in the 1980’s.
The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame would like to thank the San Francisco Giants
for providing game tickets to the scholarship winners and for their continued
support of the Art Rosenbaum Sports Writing Scholarship program.
