Born in Oakland, he had a 24-year major league career
as a right-hand starter and reliever. Started his major league
career with Cleveland in 1975. Played with Boston in 1978-84.
Traded in 1984 to Chicago Cubs. He joined the Oakland A's in 1987.
In 1996-97, he was with the St. Louis Cardinals and finished his
career with Boston in 1998. Won the American League, Cy Young
and MVP awards with Oakland in 1992. Holds the American record
for saves at 390. MVP of the 1988 AL playoffs when he saved all
four games. Had a no hitter in 1977 against the Anaheim Angels.
He was selected to the All-Star team six times. Inducted into
the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
