Barbra I. Higgins

Barbra has served as a Director since 1988, as chairperson of BASHOF’s
grant committee since 1997, and was made Vice President of BASHOF in 2004. She
represented her country, Panama, as a member of the 1984 Olympic Women’s
Foil Fencing Team and competed nationally and internationally for 13 years, winning
10 divisional championships, 5 sectional championships, and 2 national titles before
making the Olympic team. Barbra had the honor of carrying her country’s flag in the closing ceremonies in Los Angeles.
Barbra is the president of Asta Incorporated, a counsulting firm that assists small businesses analyze, create, direct and manage internal operating procedures to maintain consistent fiscal stability. Utilizing her extensive background in business operations, organization and formal training in accounting and law, Barbra assists vibrant companies realize their potential and attain their vision and business goals. Her company fills the role of CFO or COO for companies who are not ready to hire a full-time CFO/COO. In addition, she continues to provide individuals with mediation and negotiation services.
Other experience includes Director of the 2002 Modern Pentathlon World Championships held at Stanford University; COO of DentPro Franchise Corp, Founder and president of Athlon Sports Management Group and Tax Manager for Price Waterhouse. Her community involvement includes her recent Presidential appointment to the Small Business Administration National Advisory Counsel, Board of Director and Treasurer of Northern California Olympians, CFO of the Monterey Horse Park and motivational guest speaker for schools. In addition, Barbra is establishing and directing the West Coast Fencing Center at Stanford University, a non-profit with a mission to combine academic tutoring with innovative fencing instruction to create a positive peer/team environment, foster academic achievement, and teach valuable life skills to children.
